After playing the shows out in Chino Valley (Two full days with full sets of music) my right wrist began feeling a very intense burning sensation. Lifting, pulling, pushing, anything I did suddenly became impossible without pain. My wrist became so inflamed it looked almost as if I had golf ball lodged within my wrist. After a full week back from our trip I decided I would go out to the local hospital for a second opinion. It didn't take long for the doctor to tell me;
"That's definitely a Tendinitis."
I didn't like hearing this from her...but I was glad to have some kind of closure on my condition.
Tendinitis is a repeated use injury, and seems to be most common in athletes, and individuals that have a lifestyle based around a particular type of body movement, (I.E. Runners, Landscapers, musicians...) And these type of people are the most difficult to convince them to take it easy.
I know I didn't, and still don't want to cease playing the guitar. But the stiff burning that occurs after playing certainly is a wake up call. This is just physical proof that I need to change my ways, and stop pushing myself. It's humbling to me to know I'm not invisible. As silly as that sounds, that's were I became so distraught. Suddenly now feeling like I had to start at square one, and rethink the way I come back at this. This will be a barrier indeed, but I will surpass it.
Currently we are recording tracks, I'm not playing nearly as often, but when I do I wear an splint on my wrist. In almost exactly two weeks from now I have a big music festival I am going to be playing. I am saving up my energy to play that to my fullest.
The event happens September 24th and 25th. We will go on
September 25th at 2pm. It's $15.00 for the first day, and $20.00 for the second. You can pay for both days $30.00 and save $5.00.
